New processor from Qualcomm: powerful and fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
The new processor, in comparison with the Snapdragon 888, received 20% higher performance and reduced power consumption by 30%. And all thanks to the 4-nanometer process technology and the latest ARMv9 architecture. In 2022, this 8-core chipset will be installed in most flagship smartphones and tablets.
Inside Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 are located: one Cortex-X2 core at 3.0 GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores at 2.5 GHz and four Cortex-A510 at 1.8 GHz, Adreno graphics module (30% more powerful and 25% less power consumption), 5G modem X65 5G with 10Gbps peak speed.
Devices based on this processor can get the following characteristics: Wi-Fi 6/6E, QHD+ screen resolution with a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz, LPDDR5 memory, AptX Lossless codec, Quick Charge 5 fast charging.
For image processing, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has a Spectra ISP. In fact, this is a triple ISP system with a capacity of 18 bits, while the Snapdragon 888 had 14 bits. This increased bandwidth (3.2 gigapixels per second) allows you to capture 8K HDR video and 64-megapixel photos at the same time. This digital processor will be able to combine up to 30 images into one high-quality photo when shooting in the dark. In addition, various AI algorithms have been improved for post-processing photos and videos (for example, autoexposure, autofocus, etc.).
The Qualcomm Hexagon module is responsible for the speed of the AI functions. It received the 7th generation AI engine and became 4 times more productive.
