Short description Meizu 18

This is a smartphone on Android 11 with a very fast and productive processor, with a huge touchscreen size, with a very cool camera that has 3 modules (64 MP Wide, 8 MP Telephoto, 16 MP UltraWide), and the front camera here turned out to be very high quality, which can make beautiful selfies. And Meizu 18 has such features: a slot for two SIM cards, cut-out notch above the screen (so that a selfie camera, speakers and additional sensors are placed there).

Android version and market relevance

The long-awaited announcement of a new smartphone from the manufacturer Meizu, which took place in March 2021 (in our catalog you can see all smarphones of 2021). This is a new model Meizu 18 — dual 5G-smartphone works on Android 11, which does not receive software updates and will forever remain on the old version of Android. If this does not suit you, then be sure to check the selected ones DROID-smartphones in our catalog. These are models that work on the latest version of the Android OS or are updated on it.

And let’s look at an important function — the availability of 5G networks support in a smartphone. The manufacturer implemented functionality for working in 5G networks in this model. This means that you can use high-speed mobile Internet (up to 100 Mb/s) without delay with a stable signal. Agree that this should be very useful and we will all quickly get used to this quality of mobile Internet.

Screen, body and battery

The case Meizu 18 has got interesting features: very thin side frames, cutout above the screen for a selfie camera and sensors.

The screen Meizu 18 is made using the Super AMOLED technology, has a diagonal 6.2 inches and refresh rate 120 Hz. If the smoothness of the interface is important for you (especially in mobile games), then you need to choose smartphones with screens that have a refresh rate higher than 120 times per second. Such a very large main touch screen certainly affects the dimensions of the case, which has a thickness of 8.2 mm. Also inside the case is a battery with a capacity of 4 000 mAh. This model could become a flip smartphone and get into our catalog on a separate page, where all phones with flexible screens are collected. Unfortunately, this did not happen. And therefore, if you are interested in smartphones with such top-end characteristics, we advise you to look at them in our catalog and get a deeper understanding in which direction the entire mobile electronics industry is moving. Perhaps, in a couple of years, every second person on the planet will have such flip smartphones.

Main camera and selfie camera

A selfie camera is located in front of the screen with one lens: 20 MP Wide. Among all the cameras, this we attributed to the segment good cameras. This model has a front camera as usual at the top of the screen, like 99.9% of all smartphones. But, if this makes you bored, then we can offer smartphones with pop-up front camera. In these models, the front camera is located inside the body and goes up only when you activate the front camera mode. It sounds interesting, but how convenient it is and how long this mechanism will work is not yet clear.

The main camera got several modules (triple camera smartphones): 64 MP Wide + 8 MP Telephoto + 16 MP UltraWide, located on the back of the body. We defined it in the segment super cool mobile cameras. Directly without hesitation can buy this smartphone and enjoy your photos and videos shot on it. Why do you need a camera with multiple modules in a smartphone? And what are the advantages of such a camera? This allows you to take very beautiful portraits with bokeh (blurred background) effect. And an additional lens with a different focal length provides a high-quality approximation (zoom) for photography. In addition, software algorithms can improve the quality of the photo after processing frames from each camera module.

Processor and Internal Memory

The smartphone performance is affected by a lot of factors, and even more so on the android-smartphone, where the developer of the Android operating system and the device manufacturer are absolutely different companies and each develops with its strategy in the market. As a result, in the smartphone you get a hodgepodge: it′s like a “clean” Android, but with a shell from the manufacturer; as though only the necessary applications, but also many unnecessary from the manufacturer. Very often Android-installed apps by default, which you do not even use, are still running and working, they occupy part of the RAM and processor time of your smartphone. This slows the work of other applications and the battery charge is wasted.

So, in Meizu 18 is installed 8-core processor on the chipset Snapdragon 888 (5 nm). As for RAM, the memory module is used here 8 GB, but if this is not enough for you, then there is a version for 12 GB. You can choose the right version of the smartphone, but note that the price of these versions is different.

You can store your photos, videos, music and applications only on the built-in smartphone memory, because the support for memory cards is not implemented here. The manufacturer releases several versions of this smartphone with different memory sizes: 128/256 GB. Before buying, be sure to decide how many gigabytes you need.

Price for Meizu 18: buy or not to buy?

The smartphone Meizu 18 got into our price segment “Flagships smartphones from $500” and began to be sold in March 2021 at a price of $675. Evaluation of the characteristics, probably, you have already folded, and if not, here is our result. Meizu 18 is a very smart smartphone with a huge screen and the coolest main camera for today, and the front camera at it turned out simply smart. And to all this we add that the battery is of high capacity.

Is it worth buying now this model of the smartphone, we are talking about our status “Droid-or-Junk”. Of course, at the beginning of sales, almost every smartphone becomes a Droid, and we advise buying such models. But over time, the situation is changing, no one updates the Android version in the smartphone, and in six months or a year this smartphone can already become a Junk. In this case, we advise you to go to the DROID smartphones page in our catalog, where we always show the most current models on sale for today. There are variants from different price segments, so you will have plenty to choose from.
