Overview Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus
Android version and market relevance
The official announcement Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus was held in December 2017. The new smartphone from Xiaomi hit the budget price category and runs Android 7.1 Nougat. In our opinion, it was necessary to release this smartphone at the end of 2017 on Android 8.0 or even 8.1. In February 2018, after the MWC exhibition, models of other manufacturers will appear on the market for the same money, but with a new version of Android. Therefore, at the moment we are marking Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus as «Junk». Yes, that′s right after the announcement. The manufacturer must respect its customers and not release devices that are already out of date at the time of the announcement. It does not even save the proprietary MIUI 9 shell on which the device works, because it′s not at all clear when the device can be upgraded to a new version of Android.
Screen, body and battery
A large 5.99-inch touchscreen IPS LCD screen, an aspect ratio of 18:9, a resolution of 1080×260 pixels gives a density of ~403 ppi. The design of the body is very modern, for example, there is no button below the screen, which allowed it to occupy almost the entire front panel of the smartphone. In the hand, by the way, it feels nice — the front glass, the metal frame on the sides and the rear metal panel with plastic stripes for the antennas. The battery has a capacity of 4,000 mAh.
Main camera and selfie camera
The main camera received 12 megapixels (f/2.2, 1.25 μm), phase autofocus, dual LED flash, geotagging, HDR, panorama mode, touchfocus and detection of faces and smiles. On Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, you can record video with good quality 2160p@30fps or 1080p@30fps. And what about a selfie-camera? And it fully corresponds to the price of the device — 5 Mp with the ability to record video 1080p. If you need and want to make beautiful selfies, then it′s better not to buy Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus.
Processor and Internal Memory
But the processor here is not bad at all — the average Snapdragon 625 with eight cores on the Cortex-A53 chipset with GPU Adreno 506. The built-in memory has two options (pay attention to this when buying): 64 GB of internal and 4 GB of RAM; either 32 GB of internal and 3 GB of RAM. From our own experience, we recommend buying a version with 64 GB of internal memory.
Price for Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus: buy or not to buy?
At the time of the announcement, the manufacturer announced a price of 160 EUR. At such a price Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus and with such characteristics, of course, like all fans of the Chinese brand Xiaomi. If you are not, then we suggest you go to the page of price segment from $100 to $200 and see that in 2018 you can buy for this money. At a minimum, other manufacturers can offer a fresh Android and a better selfie-camera. And, of course, do not forget that on the page DROID-smartphones there is always an up-to-date list of smartphones that we recommend buying today.
